Fairfax summer camp guide
.
Fairfax families are choosing among several different camp systems, not one countywide list. I compared the official 2026 details so parents can tell the difference between a flexible activity camp, a long childcare day, an FCPS enrichment program, and a City of Fairfax summer program.
For the widest choice, Fairfax County Park Authority lists camps for ages 3 through 15 and offers one hour of morning or afternoon care at selected full day camps. Camp Fairfax is the strongest long day option for rising grades 1 through 7, with standard hours from 7:30 AM to 6 PM and income based weekly fees. FCPS Tech Adventure Camp costs $300 per week before reduced meal rates and offers $100 weekly after care. City of Fairfax traditional camps run in longer sessions and offer limited after care.
Availability can change after publication. Use the exact official registration page to confirm a seat, final price, forms, location, and care option before paying.

Planning note: The Park Authority price must be checked on the exact camp listing because the county offers more than 2,000 camp options. Camp Fairfax uses an income table, while FCPS and City of Fairfax publish fixed tuition for the programs shown here.
A camp can sound perfect and still fail the family schedule. First write down the earliest drop off, latest pickup, number of weeks needed, and whether the child can handle a different camp each week. Then compare the theme.
Camp Fairfax provides the longest published day in this guide. Standard hours run from 7:30 AM to 6 PM. The 2026 core option runs from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, but the county says core hours will end after summer 2026. Families automatically receive standard enrollment unless they select core hours.
The Fairfax County Park Authority camp page covers more than 2,000 options for ages 3 through 15. The 2026 season runs from June 1 through September 4 and includes art, cooking, dance, drama, music, nature, science, sports, and variety camps. Registration began February 3 and 5. The county says registration continues during the season where space remains and lets families join a waitlist without paying until a child moves into a seat.
Price, age, location, and daily hours vary by the exact camp. Use the official spreadsheet or registration result rather than a general price estimate. Selected full day camps ending at 4 PM or later offer one extra hour from 8 to 9 AM for $40 per week and one extra hour from 4 to 5 PM for another $40 per week. Extended care requires advance weekly registration and can fill separately from camp.
Camp Fairfax serves rising grades 1 through 7 at schools and community centers. Community center sessions run June 22 through August 21. School based sites run June 29 through August 7. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are included. Families do not need to be enrolled in the school year SACC program.
The weekly fee depends on adjusted household income and the selected hours. For a normal five day week, one child costs from $11 to $281 for standard hours or $8 to $199 for core hours. Four day holiday weeks cost less. A $45 annual fee applies, with adjustments for income eligible families. Sibling discounts are 10 percent for the second child, 20 percent for the third, and 30 percent for each additional child.
Registration opened March 17 through March 20 based on the first letter of the site name. New online accounts can take up to five days to activate. The county requires two weeks notice to cancel without remaining responsible for payment.
The FCPS summer camp page groups Tech Adventure Camp, elementary and secondary arts institutes, Production Camp, and Career and Technical Education Summer Academy. These are structured enrichment programs rather than all day summer childcare.
Tech Adventure Camp serves current grades K through 5, with a minimum age of 6 on the first day. It runs in one week sessions from July 6 through July 31. Tuition is $300 per week, $150 for eligible reduced meal students, or $30 for eligible free meal students. Early drop off begins at 7:30 AM. After care from 2 to 5 PM costs $100 per week.
Institute for the Arts serves current grades 6 through 11 in two week sessions. Tuition is $600, $300, or $60 based on the same meal eligibility. The 2026 FCPS registration window ran February 2 through June 5, so the official registration system controls whether any late space exists.
The City of Fairfax summer camp page is separate from Fairfax County. City residents and returning campers received access March 3, while nonresidents received access March 10.
Providence and Daniels Run camps serve rising grades 1 through 4 from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. The first three week session costs $762 and the second costs $815. Limited after care from 4 to 6 PM costs $120 per week. The Middle Grades program serves rising grades 5 through 7 and costs $830 or $888 by session, with $110 weekly after care. The city also operates Little School for ages 4 and 5 with different hours and tuition.
The city offers a $50 full payment discount for full summer traditional camp and a $50 sibling discount for eligible registrations. Financial assistance is limited to qualified City of Fairfax residents.
Park Authority camps start at age 3, but each camp sets its own age range. City of Fairfax Little School serves ages 4 and 5. Fairfax County's Therapeutic Recreation preschool camp serves ages 2 through 5 who have not completed kindergarten. Its 2026 sessions run July 13 through 17 and July 20 through 24 from 8 to 11 AM, at $70 per week with scholarships available.
The Park Authority also publishes adapted and sensory friendly camps, and Camp Fairfax identifies selected sites with lower ratios and immersive sensory spaces. Contact the exact program before registering when a child needs medication support, personal care, communication help, a lower ratio, or another accommodation. A general inclusion statement does not prove that every site can provide the same support.
Use the Fairfax family outing guide for a one day plan instead of treating an outing like childcare. The indoor activity guide helps with heat or storms, while the current weekend guide covers dated family events. Those pages do not substitute for supervised camp care.
Confirm the child's eligible grade or age, exact location, session dates, daily hours, morning and afternoon care, final tuition, sibling or income discount, meals, transportation, field trips, medication process, required health forms, refund deadline, and waitlist status. Ask whether care registration is separate from camp registration.
Because today is already inside the 2026 camp season, a published program is not proof of an open seat. Park Authority says selected spaces remain, while FCPS closed its normal registration window June 5. Open the exact official registration page and look for a live seat, waitlist, or closed status before making plans.
Camp Fairfax publishes standard hours from 7:30 AM to 6 PM for rising grades 1 through 7. City of Fairfax and selected Park Authority camps can add care, but those options have separate limits and fees.
